This confirms an already widespread theory that at least some dinosaurs had feathers, but also provided information that is not usually found in fossils, such as colour and three-dimensional structure.
According to the researchers, the animal's plumage was reddish-brown on top and pale or carotenoid-coloured on the underside.
Furthermore, the discovery helps to understand the evolution of bird beaks.
Because dinosaur feathers don't have a well-developed barb, but do have other feather characteristics - such as barbs and barbules - researchers concluded that the barb is probably a later stage in the evolution of the feather.
The structure of the feathers suggests that they were used for thermoregulation or mating displays rather than flight, although the specimen was a juvenile, the researchers argued that the feathers came from an adult's plumage rather than a juvenile's down.
Although it was a juvenile dinosaur's tail, the researchers claimed the specimen came from an adult's feathers, not a juvenile's down.

They found out that the Sun follows the same basic principles as other stars: all of their systems were found to be driven by luminosity and rotation and orbital motion, not anything else.
Luminosity and rotation are used together to determine a star's Rossby number, which is related to the plasma flow.
The smaller the Rossby number, the less often the star undergoes magnetic reversals.

The work was initially theoretical, but a program was written to simulate observations of Sagittarius galaxies.
The team hoped to see tidal effects between the dark matter of the galaxy and the dark matter of the Milky Way.
Just as the Moon's gravity causes the tides on Earth, the Linnunradan gravity affects the Jousimiehen dwarf elliptical galaxy.
The researchers were able to conclude that dark matter interacts with other dark matter in the same way as normal matter.
According to this theory, most of the galaxy's dark matter surrounds it in the form of a halo and consists of a large number of small particles.

Dr Tony Moll found a highly resistant strain of tuberculosis (XDR-TB) in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province.
In an interview, he said the new variant was "extremely worrying" because of its high mortality rate.
Some patients may have been infected in the hospital, Moll believes, and at least two of them were hospital staff.
A person infected with tuberculosis can infect 10-15 close contacts during the year.
However, XDR-TB's share of all tuberculosis patients remains low - 6,000 of the 330,000 South Africans infected each year.

All of the "Seven Sisters" caves are at least 100 to 250 metres (328 to 820 feet) in diameter.
Based on infrared images, daily temperature swings suggest they are likely caves.
They are cooler than the surrounding surface during the day and warmer at night.
Their thermal behavior is not as uniform as in large caverns on Earth, which often have fairly constant temperatures, but it fits with the fact that these are deep holes in the ground," said Glen Cushing, a member of the U.S. Geological Survey's astrogeology team and a professor at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Traditionally, voting in France has not been a high-tech affair: voters go into a booth and place a pre-printed paper slip in a ballot box, marking the candidate of their choice.
After officials verify the voter's identity, the voter drops the ballot into the ballot box and signs the poll book.
French electoral legislation has set a fairly precise timetable for the events.
In 1988, the ballot boxes were made transparent so that voters and observers could verify that there were no ballots in the box at the beginning of voting and that no other ballots were added to the box other than those officially counted and authorized.
Candidates can send representatives to witness each part of the series of events. In the evening, volunteers will count the votes under strict supervision and in accordance with the prescribed procedures.

The accused have been named as Baba Kanjar, Bhutha Kanjar, Rampro Kanjar, Gaza Kanjar and Vishnu Kanjar.
Police Inspector Chandra Shekhar Solanki said the accused appeared in the court with their faces covered.
Although three people were in the house when the car hit it, no one was injured.
The driver, however, suffered serious head injuries.
The road where the collision took place was temporarily closed to rescue the driver of a red Audi TT.
He was first taken to the James Paget Hospital in Great Yarmouth.
He was then transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
Adekoya has been on trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, charged with the murder of his son.
He is in custody awaiting charges and a trial, but eyewitness testimony may be tainted since his image has been widely disseminated.
The practice is common elsewhere in the UK, but the Scottish legal system operates differently, and the courts have found that publishing the images could be prejudicial to a fair trial.
Professor Pamela Ferguson, of the University of Dundee, said: "Journalists are indeed balancing on a knife's edge if they publish unverified photographs."
A spokesperson for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), which prosecutes on behalf of the Scottish Crown, said: "It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
According to the leak, the document refers to a border dispute in which Palestine wants the borders to follow the way they were before the 1967 Middle East War.
Other issues reportedly discussed included the status of Jerusalem in the future and the issue of the Jordan Valley.
Israel is demanding a continued military presence in the valley for ten years after the signing of the agreement, while the Palestinian Authority agrees to this only for five years.
Game wardens were to closely monitor the hunters participating in the supplemental control hunt, because the hunt was observed and the effectiveness of the hunt was assessed.
Volunteers were recruited by the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the NSW branch of the Sporting Shooters' Association of Australia as part of a joint project between the two organisations and as part of the Shooters' Association's hunting program.
NPWS Parks and Heritage Director Mick O'Flynn said the four shooters selected for the first shots had received comprehensive safety and training briefings.
Martelly admitted nine members in the CEP meeting yesterday.
It is Martelly's fifth provisional electoral council in four years.
A commission appointed by the president recommended last month that the previous interim electoral commission be dismissed as part of a package of measures aimed at leading the country to new elections.
The commission was Martelly's response to the widespread anti-government protests that began in October.
The sometimes violent protests were sparked by unfulfilled elections, some of which were scheduled to take place as early as 2011.
There have been about 60 reports of overheating iPods, including six fires and minor burns to four people.
Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) said it was aware of the accident involving the 27 devices.
Last week, the ministry announced that Apple had told it about 34 other overheating incidents, which the company called "non-serious."
The ministry responded by calling Apple's delay in releasing the report "very regrettable."
The quake struck at 7:19 a.m. local time (21:19 GMT on Friday).
The Northern Mariana Islands Office of Emergency Management said there were no reports of damage.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also reported that there were no signs of a tsunami.
A former Filipino policeman has held a group of Hong Kong tourists hostage after hijacking their bus in the Philippine capital of Manila.
Rolando Mendoza shot tourists with an M16 rifle.
Several hostages have been rescued, and so far at least six have been confirmed dead.
Six hostages, including children and the elderly, were released early, including Filipino photographers.
Later, photographers took the place of an elderly woman when she needed to use the toilet. Mendoza died in the fire.
Liggins followed in his father's footsteps and became a doctor.
He trained as an obstetrician and began working at the National Women's Hospital in Auckland in 1959.
While working at the hospital, Liggins began researching preterm labor.
His research showed that giving the hormone speeds up the development of the baby's lungs.
Xinhua reported that the official investigation team found two black boxes, or flight recorders, on Wednesday.
Other wrestlers also showed their respect for Luna.
Tommy Dreamer said, "Luna was the first Queen of Extremes. The first manager I ever had. Luna passed away two months ago. A very unique case, just like her. A strong woman."
Dustin "Goldust" Runnels commented: "Luna was as crazy as I am... maybe more so... I love her and I'll miss her... hopefully she's in a better place."
A survey of 1,400 voters in the lead-up to the 2010 federal election found 8 per cent more Australians opposed becoming a republic than in 2008.
During the 2010 federal election campaign, Prime Minister Julia Gillard said she believed Australia should become a republic after the reign of Queen Elizabeth II ended.
34 per cent of those surveyed agreed with him and wanted Queen Elizabeth II to be Australia's last monarch.
At the extremes, 29 per cent believe Australia should become a republic as soon as possible, while 31 per cent believe Australia should never become a republic.
The Olympic champion was due to compete in the 100m and 200m freestyle and three relays, but has been hampered by niggles.
He couldn't take the painkillers he needed because they are banned in the competition.
Curtis Cooper, a professor of computer science and mathematics at the University of Central Missouri, found the largest known prime number on January 25.
By the beginning of February, several people had confirmed the discovery using different devices and software, and it was reported on Tuesday.
Comets may have brought water to Earth as well as organic material that can form proteins and support life.
Researchers hope to understand how planets form, and especially how the Earth formed, because comets collided with the Earth a long time ago.
Cuomo, 53, took office as governor earlier this year and signed a bill last month legalizing same-sex marriage.
He called the rumours "political gossip and ridiculous."
He is expected to run for president in 2016.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration says NextGen is a system that will allow planes to fly shorter routes, save millions of gallons of fuel annually and reduce carbon emissions.
It uses satellite-based technology instead of the older, ground-based technology, allowing air traffic controllers to track planes more precisely and give pilots more accurate information about where they are.
There will be no shuttle buses and there will be no trains stopping at Wembley. There will also be no parking or drop-off facilities at the stadium.
Concerns about the lack of transportation raised the possibility that the game would have to be played behind closed doors without the team's supporters.
A study published in the journal Science on Thursday described the evolution of a new bird species on the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.
Researchers from Princeton University and Uppsala University said the new species had already developed in two generations, even though it was thought the process would take much longer. The reason for this was the interbreeding between the native Darwin's finch (Geospiza fortes) and the immigrant cactus finch (Geospiza conirostris).
Gold can be worked into all kinds of shapes. It can also be strung into small objects.
It can be stretched into a thin thread, which can be wound around and embroidered. It can be sawed or rolled into a sheet.
It can be made very thin, and it can be attached to another metal. It can be made so thin that it was once used for hand-painted illustrations in books called "illuminated manuscripts."
This is called the pH value of a chemical. You can make a pH meter yourself by using beetroot juice.
Kale juice changes color depending on how acidic or alkaline (that is, how basic) the substance is.
The number of hydronium ions (pH:H) in the tested substance indicates the pH value.
Hydrogen ions are protons from which electrons have been removed (because hydrogen atoms consist of one proton and one electron).
Mix the dry ingredients together and then knead them into a ball with clean and moist hands.
The moisture reacts to the outer layer, which feels strange and forms a kind of shell.
In almost every house in Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, there was a flushing toilet connected to a complex sewage system.
Remnants of drainage systems have been found in the Minoan cities of Crete and Santorini.
In ancient Egypt, Persia, and China, there were also toilets. In the Roman civilization, the toilets were sometimes part of public baths, where men and women bathed in the same rooms.
When you call someone thousands of miles away, you use a satellite.
A satellite in space receives a call and reflects it back almost immediately.
The satellite was launched into space by a rocket. Scientists use telescopes in space because the Earth's atmosphere bends some of the light and affects what we see.
A rocket over 100 feet long is needed to launch a satellite or telescope into space.
The bicycle has changed the world in unbelievable ways. Much easier and faster movement is the greatest thing the bicycle has done for us.
It has given us a train, a car, and many other means of transport.
They are followed by medium-sized cat species that eat medium-sized prey from hares to antelopes and pigs.
Then there are many small mammals (including stray cats) that eat small prey, such as insects, rodents, lizards, and birds, whose numbers are much greater.
The secret of their success is the so-called ecological niche. According to this concept, each cat has its own special task, which is why it does not compete with others.
Lions are the most social of the cat species and live in large groups called prides.
A group consists of one to three adult males related to each other, and sometimes up to 30 females and young.
Females are usually closely related to each other forming a large family of sisters and daughters.
Leopard prides behave in much the same way as wolf or dog packs, and they resemble leopards (but not other large cats) in their behaviour, and they are also very dangerous to their prey.
The tiger is a versatile athlete and can climb (though not very well), swim, jump far and pull five times as hard as a strong man.
The tiger belongs to the same genus (Panthera) as lions, leopards and jaguars. Only these four big cats can roar.
The tiger's roar does not resemble a lion's full roar, but more like a sentence that is made up of guttural, screaming words.
Ocelots love to eat small animals. They hunt monkeys, snakes, rodents, and birds if they can catch them. Almost all of the ocelot's prey are much smaller than it is.
Researchers believe the otters use their sense of smell to track and find their prey, or food, by sniffing the ground where they have walked.
Owls see very well in the dark thanks to their night vision, and they move very stealthily. They hunt by blending in with their surroundings and then pouncing on their prey.
When a small group of organisms (a small population) becomes isolated from the main population from which it originated (for example, if it moves across a mountain range or a river or to a new island, making it difficult to return), its environment is often different from what it was before.
The resources of the new environment are different and the competitors are different, so to be a strong competitor in the new population requires different characteristics or adaptations than before.
The original population has not changed at all, and it still needs the same adaptations as before.
As the new population begins to adapt to its new environment, it will begin to look less and less like the main population over time.
Eventually, after thousands or even millions of years, the two populations are so different that they can no longer be called the same species.
We call this process speciation, which simply means the birth of a new species. Speciation is an inevitable consequence of evolution and a very important part of it.
Plants produce oxygen that people breathe in, and they use carbon dioxide that people breathe out.
Plants make their food from the sun by photosynthesis. They also provide shade.
We make our house out of plants and we make our clothes out of plants. Most of the food we eat is plants. Without plants, animals would not survive.
The Mosasaurus was the apex predator of its time, so it feared nothing but other mosasaurs.
Its long jaws held more than 70 tiger shark teeth, plus an extra row of teeth in the roof of its mouth, so no prey could escape.
We're not sure, but it may have had a forked tongue. Its diet consisted of turtles, large fish, and other mosasaurs, and it may even have been a cannibal.
It also attacked everything that came into the water. Even a Tyrannosaurus rex-like giant dinosaur would not have stood a chance against it.
Most of their food would be familiar to us, but the Romans also had their own peculiar or unfamiliar delicacies, such as wild boar, pheasant, mullet and a rodent known as a squirrel.
The second difference was that the poor and women ate their meals sitting on the floor, while the rich preferred to organise communal feasts where they lay on their sides to eat their meals.
In ancient Rome, it was not possible to serve such food that came to Europe or Asia from America only in later centuries.
They had, for example, no corn, tomatoes, potatoes, or chocolate, and no ancient Roman ever tasted turkey.
The Babylonians built a temple for each of their gods, which was considered to be the god's home.
People brought sacrifices to the gods, and priests tried to fulfill the gods' needs with ceremonies and festivals.
Each temple had an open courtyard and then an inner sanctuary, called the innermost sanctuary, to which only priests were allowed to enter.
Sometimes temples were topped with pyramid-shaped towers called ziggurats.
The top of the tower was a special sanctuary for the god.
In the warm Middle Eastern climate, the house was not as important.
Most of a Hebrew family's life was spent outdoors.
Women cooked food in the courtyard, and the shops were just open stalls lining the streets. The houses were made of stone.
There were no large forests in Canaan, so wood was extremely expensive.
Grønland was sparsely populated.Norwegian sagas say that Erik the Red was exiled from Iceland because of a murder, and while travelling west he found Greenland and named it Greenland.
But despite his discovery, the Eskimos were already living on the island.
Although every country was "Scandinavian," there were many differences between the people, kings, customs, and history of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland.
If you've seen the movie National Treasure, you might think the map was drawn on the back of the Declaration of Independence.
But that's not true. Even though something is written on the back of the document, it's not a treasure map.
On the reverse side of the Declaration of Independence is written the words "The original Declaration of Independence, dated July 4, 1776." The writing is in the lower part of the document.
No one knows for sure who wrote them, but it is known that a large parchment document (29 ¾ inches by 24 ½ inches) was rolled up for preservation in the early days.
It is therefore likely that the marking was added only as a nickname.
D-Day, the landings and the subsequent battles had liberated northern France, but the south was still not free.
It was the so-called Vichy France, i.e. the French who had made a peace treaty with the Germans in 1940 and collaborated with the invaders, not fighting against them.
Allied forces invaded southern France on August 15, 1944. The code name for the invasion was Operation Dragoon.
American and Free French troops liberated Southern France in just two weeks and turned towards Germany.
A civilization is a culture that is common to a large group of people living and working together, a society.
The word "civilization" comes from the Latin word civilis, which means civilian or citizen. It is related to the Latin word civis, which means citizen or subject, and civitas, which means city or city-state, and in a way defines the size of a society.
Cities are the forerunners of nations. Civilized culture refers to the transfer of knowledge from one generation to another, a long-term cultural footprint, and a large spread.
Smaller cultures often disappear without leaving the necessary historical evidence, so they are not usually considered civilizations.
During the American Revolution, thirteen states formed a weak central government - the only part of which was Congress - based on the Articles of Confederation.
Congress had no power to levy taxes, and since there was no national executive or judiciary, it had to rely on the often uncooperative state officials to enforce its laws.
It did not have the power to change tax laws or interstate tariffs.
Article changes required the unanimous consent of all states, and the states were so overrepresented in the central government that often their representatives were not present.
The Italian national football team is the second most successful national football team in the world, after the German national football team. It won the FIFA World Cup in 2006.
Popular sports include football, basketball, volleyball, water polo, fencing, cycling, ice hockey, roller hockey and F1 motor racing.
Winter sports are the most popular in the northern regions, and the Italians compete in them even in international matches and in the Olympics.
Japan has nearly 7,000 islands (the largest being Honshu), making it the world's seventh largest island!
Because Japan's islands are scattered or grouped together, Japan is often referred to as an "archipelago" in a geographical sense.
Taiwan was already felt in the 1400s, when passing European sailors mentioned the island using the name Ilha Formosa, or Beautiful Island.
In 1624, the Dutch East India Company established a trading post in what is now southern Taiwan, introducing changes in the indigenous farming methods and hiring Chinese laborers to work on their rice and sugar plantations.
The Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) took control of Taiwan's western and northern coastal areas in 1683 and declared Taiwan a Qing Dynasty province in 1885.
After losing the First Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895), the Qing government signed the Shimonoseki Treaty, ceding Taiwan to Japan, which governed the island until 1945.
Machu Picchu consists of three main buildings: these are Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows.
Most of the buildings on the edges of the complex have been restored to give visitors a better idea of their original appearance.
By 1976, 30 percent of Machu Picchu had been restored, and restoration continues to this day.
For example, the most common still image format is 35 mm, which was the dominant film format at the end of the analogue film era.
It is still produced, but especially the digital camera sensor formats have inherited its aspect ratio.
Somewhat confusingly, the 35mm size is actually 36mm wide and 24mm high.
Therefore, this aspect ratio (when divided by twelve, to get the simplest ratio) is said to be 3:2.
Many common formats (e.g. the APS format family) either match or are very close to this aspect ratio.
Often misused and much mocked, the thirds rule is a simple guideline to create dynamism in an image while still maintaining some semblance of order.
According to it, the most effective place for the target is where the vertical and horizontal thirds intersect (see example).
During this period in European history, the Catholic Church, which had become rich and powerful, came under intense scrutiny.
Christianity had united European states for more than a thousand years, despite differences in languages and customs.
Its omnipotent power affected everyone, from the king to the commoner.
One of the main tenets of Christianity is that wealth should be used to alleviate suffering and poverty, and that church funds are meant to be used for that purpose.
The central authority of the church had been in Rome for more than a thousand years, and such a concentration of power and money made many question the feasibility of the doctrine.
Shortly after the outbreak of hostilities, Britain began its naval blockade of Germany.
The strategy proved effective in cutting off vital supplies for soldiers and civilians, even though the blockade violated international law that had been codified in many international agreements over the past two centuries.
Britain mined international waters to prevent ships from entering entire ocean areas and even threatened neutral ships.
Because the tactic elicited only a limited response, Germany expected a similar response from its unlimited submarine campaign.
In the 1920s, the dominant attitudes of most citizens and states were pacifism and isolationism.
After witnessing the horrors and atrocities of the First World War, the nations decided to avoid a similar situation in the future.
Tesla moved to the United States in 1884 to take a job at the Edison Company in New York.
He arrived in the U.S. with four cents, a poetry book, and a recommendation letter from Charles Batchelor (his previous boss) to Thomas Edison.
In ancient China, there was a unique way to depict different time periods: each phase or ruling dynasty in Chinese history was considered to be its own dynasty.
In addition, each dynasty was separated by an unstable period of regional division, the most famous of which was the Three Kingdoms period between the Han and Jin dynasties, which lasted for 60 years.
During this period, many aristocrats fought fiercely in order to gain the throne.
The Three Kingdoms period was one of the bloodiest periods in ancient Chinese history, with thousands of people dying as they fought for the right to sit on the throne of Xi'an's majestic palace.
There were many social and political consequences, such as the introduction of the metric system, the transition from an absolute monarchy to a republic, nationalism, and the belief that the country belongs to the people and not to a single ruler.
After the revolution, also the positions were opened for all male applicants, so the most ambitious and successful could succeed.
The same applied to the army, since military ranks were now based on ability rather than social class.
The French Revolution also inspired other countries' oppressed working classes to start their own revolutions.
Muhammad was deeply interested in things beyond the everyday life. He often went to a cave called Hira, which was located on a mountain called Nur, to meditate.
The cave itself, which the Prophet's tooth left in peace, creates a very lively impression of Muhammad's spiritual inclinations.
The cave is located in one of the mountains that rise to the north of Mek, and it is completely isolated from the rest of the world.
Actually, it's very hard to find, even though you know it's there. Once you're inside the cave, the isolation is complete.
There is only a clear, beautiful sky above and many surrounding mountains. Inside the cave one sees or hears very little of the material world.
The Giza Necropolis, located on the Giza Plateau in Egypt, contains several pyramids (of which the Great Pyramid is the largest), several small tombs, several temples, and the Sphinx of Giza.
The Great Pyramid of Giza, built by the Egyptians in the 26th century BCE, is one of many large pyramid-shaped structures built to honor the dead pharaohs.
The Giza Necropolis, located in the Giza Plateau in Egypt, includes several pyramids (of which the Great Pyramid is the largest), several small tombs, several temples, and the Great Sphinx.
The Great Pyramid was built in honor of Pharaoh Khufu, and many of the smaller pyramids, tombs, and temples were built in honor of Khufu's wives and family members.
A rising arrow looks like a V, and a falling arrow looks like a V with a line missing.
A rising bow means you should start from the tip and push the bow. A falling bow means you should start from the frog (where you hold the bow in your hand) and pull the bow.
A rising bow produces a softer sound, a falling bow is stronger and harsher.
You are free to add your own markings with a pencil, but remember that the printed fingerings are there for musical reasons, so they should generally be followed.
On October 6, 1789, a mob of workers forced King Louis XVI, Queen Marie Antoinette, their two young children (11-year-old Marie-Thérèse and 4-year-old Louis-Charles), and the king's sister Elisabeth to leave Versailles and return to Paris.
They were driven back to Paris in lorries, pursued by a mob shouting threats against the king and queen.
The crowd forced the king and queen to open the windows of their wagons completely.
At some point, someone in the crowd waved the head of a gendarme killed in Versailles in front of a distraught queen.
The Filipinos were made to pay for the costs of the American imperialist invasion of the Philippines.
They were forced to pay taxes to the U.S. territorial government, which covered a significant portion of the costs, and to take care of the interest payments on the loans issued by Wall Street banks in the name of the Philippine government.
Of course, the U.S. imperialism's main victims were the Filipinos' long-term exploitation.
To understand the Knights Templar, you need to understand the background against which it was formed.
The period is usually referred to as the High Middle Ages, a period in European history between 1000 and 1300 A.D.
The Early Middle Ages were preceded by the Early Middle Ages, and then came the Late Middle Ages, which are generally considered to have ended around 1500.
Technological determinism is a term that covers a wide range of ideas about the inevitability of technological progress and the idea that human beings are controlled by scientific laws and the logic inherent in the technology.
Most interpretations of technological determinism share two basic premises: first, that the development of technology follows a path that is largely independent of cultural and political influences, and second, that technology itself has "natural" effects on society that are more organic than socially determined.
For example, one could argue that the invention of the car inevitably led to the development of roads.
On the other hand, a nationwide road network is not economically viable only for a few cars, so new production methods are being developed to reduce the cost of owning a car.
As a result of the mass of cars, there are more accidents in traffic, which leads to the invention of new health care methods for repairing damaged bodies.
Cultural determinism was an important factor in Romanticism, inherited from writers such as Goethe, Fichte, and Schlegel.
In the context of Romanticism, geography was seen as shaping individuals. Over time, a place-specific way of life and culture developed, which were in harmony with the society, and thus functioned better than laws arbitrarily imposed.
Constantinople was the fashion capital of medieval Europe in the same way that Paris is the fashion capital of the modern world.
Its reputation as a center of luxury began about 400 B.C. and lasted until about A.D. 1100.
Its decline in the 11th century was mainly due to the Crusaders returning home with silks and spices, which were more highly valued than the goods on the Byzantine market.
It was just then that the title of fashion capital was transferred from Constantinople to Paris.
The Gothic style was at its peak in the 900s and 1000s and between the 11th and 13th centuries.
At first, clothing was heavily influenced by Eastern Byzantine culture.
However, due to the slow communication channels, the styles of Western Europe were 25 to 30 years behind.
In the late Middle Ages, Western Europe began to develop its own style. One of the most important steps in the development of the period was that people began to use buttons to fasten their clothes during crusades.
Sustainable farming is farming that produces enough food to feed only the farmer and his family.
Community-based agriculture is a simple, often organic system that uses native seeds combined with intercropping or other relatively simple methods to maximize yields.
Historically, most farmers practiced subsistence farming, and this is still the case in many developing countries.
Subcultures bring together like-minded people who feel they are excluded from society's norms, allowing them to develop their own identities.
Subcultures can be distinguished by age, ethnicity, class, location, and/or gender.
The defining characteristics of a subculture may be linguistic, aesthetic, religious, political, sexual, regional, or a combination of several factors.
Often members of subcultures express their membership through stylistic and symbolic use, including fashion, behavior, and slang.
One of the most common ways to demonstrate the importance of socialization is to use examples of the few unfortunate children who were deprived of socialization as a result of neglect, bad luck, or deliberate abuse.
These children are called "feral." Some children have been ostracized by people (often their own parents) because of a serious intellectual or physical disability.
Wild kittens may have experienced serious abuse or trauma before being abandoned or running away.
Some are said to have been raised by animals, while others are said to have lived in the wild on their own.
If a feral animal has been raised entirely without human intervention, it will behave (within the limits of its physical abilities) almost identically to its caregiver animal, such as displaying the same fear or indifference toward humans.
The purpose of project-based learning is to make learning easier and more interesting. Real-time support for learning (scaffolding) goes one step further.
TikTok is not a learning method, but a tool that supports individuals in a new learning experience, such as using a new computer program or starting a new project.
A tic-tac-toe can be either virtual or real. In other words, the teacher is a tic-tac-toe, but so is the little paper clip in Microsoft Office.
The virtual tutors are built into the software, and their purpose is to ask questions, give advice, and explain procedures that may have been too difficult for the learner without any help.
Children are placed in foster care for a variety of reasons, ranging from neglect to abuse and even restraint.
No child should ever grow up in an environment that is not nurturing, caring and growing, but some live.
We are keeping the foster care system as a safe haven for these children.
Our foster care system is designed to provide a safe home, loving caregivers, consistent education, and reliable healthcare.
The placement of the children is intended to meet all of their basic needs that they lacked in their previous homes.
The Internet combines elements of mass communication and interpersonal communication.
The special features of the Internet mean additional dimensions in the case of a use theory.
For example, "learning" and "socialization" are presented as important influences on Internet use (James et al. 1995).
Eighmey and McCord (1998) also identified "personal involvement" and "ongoing relationships" as new ways of looking at audience reactions to websites.
The use of video recordings has led to important discoveries in the interpretation of micro-expressions, or facial movements lasting only a few milliseconds.
Specifically, it has been claimed that by interpreting micro-expressions correctly, it is possible to detect whether a person is lying.
In his article The President's Speech, Oliver Sacks described how people who are unable to understand speech due to brain damage are still able to accurately assess dishonesty.
He even suggests that some animals, such as domestic dogs, may have similar abilities to interpret human behavior.
Research in the 20th century has shown that there are two gene pools: recessive and dominant.
A mutation introduces new genetic variation, selection removes it from the population.
Mutation and recombination shift the variation back and forth between these two pools from generation to generation.
It is difficult for a primate with a digestive system similar to that of a human to get enough amino acids from plants available on the savannah.
Without them, there are serious consequences: slow growth, malnutrition, and eventually death.
The most readily available vegetable proteins would have been proteins from leafy greens and legumes, but it would have been difficult for our primate ancestors to digest them without cooking.
Instead, animal-based foods (ants, termites, eggs) are easily digestible, and also provide a large amount of essential amino acids in the form of proteins.
Thus, we should not be surprised if our ancestors solved their "protein problem" in much the same way that savannah chimpanzees do today.
A sleep interruption means waking up intentionally during a normal sleep cycle and falling asleep again a little later (10-60 minutes later).
This is easily achieved by using a relatively quiet alarm clock that brings you back to consciousness but does not fully wake you up.
If you notice your alarm going off while you're sleeping, you can place it on the other side of the room, forcing you to get out of bed to turn it off.
Other options based on circadian rhythms include drinking plenty of fluids (especially water or tea, known as a diuretic) before bedtime, when you have to get up to go to the bathroom.
The amount of inner peace a person has is inversely proportional to the amount of tension in their body and mind.
The less tense he is, the more positive is his vitality. Everyone is able to find the perfect peace and contentment.
Everyone can achieve enlightenment. The only obstacle is our own nervousness and negativity.
Tibetan Buddhism is based on the teachings of the Buddha, but it also includes the concept of the Mahayana, the Great Vehicle, and many techniques of Indian yoga.
In essence, Tibetan Buddhism is very simple. It includes Kundalini yoga, meditation, and the path of unconditional love.
In kundalini yoga, kundalini energy (awakening energy) is awakened through yoga poses, breathing exercises, mantras, and visualization.
The center of Tibetan meditation is deity yoga. Visualizing deities cleanses the energy channels, activates the chakras, and develops awareness of enlightenment.
Germany was a common enemy in the Second World War, which is why the Soviet Union and the United States cooperated. After the end of the war, differences in systems, procedures, and cultures led to a rift between the countries.
Two years after the end of the war, former allies had become enemies, leading to the Cold War.
It lasted the next 40 years, and there was a real war, because proxy armies fought on the battlefields of Africa and Asia, in Afghanistan, Cuba, and many other places.
By September 17, 1939, the Polish defense was already broken, and the only hope was to retreat and reorganize in the Romanian bridgehead.
These plans, however, were rendered obsolete almost overnight when more than 800,000 Soviet Red Army soldiers invaded the country, violating the Riga Peace Treaty, the Polish-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact, and other bilateral and multilateral agreements.
Using ships to transport goods is by far the most efficient way to move large numbers of people and goods across oceans.
The Navy's traditional mission has been to ensure that one's own country has the ability to move its own people and goods while simultaneously disrupting the enemy's ability to move its own people and goods.
One of the more recent examples was the North Atlantic Campaign of World War II, in which the United States attempted to move people and supplies across the Atlantic to help Britain.
At the same time, the German Navy mainly used submarines to try to prevent this traffic.
If the Allies had failed, it is likely that Germany would have succeeded in conquering Britain as well as the rest of Europe.
Wild goats were domesticated about 10,000 years ago in the Zagros Mountains of Iran.
Ancient cultures and peoples began keeping them to easily get milk, wool, meat, and hides.
Young goats were traditionally raised in flocks that wandered the hills or other pastures, often tended by goatherds, who were often children or young people, like the famous shepherds. These herding methods are still in use today.
Carriages were built in England as early as in the 1500s.
Although the wheels were made entirely of parallel wooden slats, they allowed the horses to pull the wagons faster and with heavier loads than the slightly more uneven roads of the time.
The sleepers were put into use quite early to keep the tracks in place. Eventually, however, it was realised that the tracks would be more efficient if there was a metal strip on top of them.
The practice became common, but the iron consumed the wooden wheels of the wagons more.
In the end, wooden wheels were replaced with iron ones. In 1767, the first iron rails were introduced.
The first known mode of transportation was walking upright, which began when Homo erectus (or upright man) evolved about two million years ago.
The preceding Australopithecus did not walk upright as continuously.
There is evidence of bipedalism in Australopithecus fossils dating from 4.2 to 3.9 million years ago, although Sahelanthropus may have walked upright as early as seven million years ago.
We can live more sustainably, we can join the environmental movement, and we can even become activists to alleviate some of the future suffering.
This is often like treating the symptoms of an illness, but if we don't want a temporary fix, we need to find the root of the problem and remove it.
It is obvious that the world has changed a lot due to man's scientific and technological progress, and the problems have grown due to overpopulation and man's wasteful lifestyle.
After Congress had approved it on July 4, a handwritten copy, signed by Congress President John Hancock and Secretary Charles Thomson, was sent to John Dunlap's printing shop a few blocks away.
During the night, 150 to 200 copies were printed, known today as the Dunlap broadsides.
On July 8, 1776, John Nixon read the Declaration of Independence publicly for the first time on the steps of Independence Hall.
One of them was sent to George Washington on July 6, who read it to his troops in New York on July 9. One copy reached London on August 10.
The 25 Dunlap broadsides that are known to still exist are the oldest surviving copies of the document. The original handwritten copy has not survived.
Many modern paleontologists believe that one dinosaur group survived and still lives today. We call them birds.
Many people don't think of them as dinosaurs because they have feathers and can fly.
But there's a lot of all sorts of things that still look like dinosaurs.
They have feet with suckers and claws, they lay eggs, and they walk on two hind legs like tyrannosaurs.
In practice, all computers currently in use are based on the processing of binary-coded information.
A binary number can have only one of two values, either 0 or 1. These numbers are called binary numbers - or in the language of computer engineers, bits.
Internal poisoning may not be immediately apparent. Symptoms such as vomiting are so common that a diagnosis cannot be made immediately.
The sign of internal poisoning is a visible, open medicine tube or a container with a toxic household chemical.
See the first aid instructions on the label.
Entomologists use the term "lute" to refer to this insect group.
The term comes from the fact that in ancient times lice were very common. Lice are insects that are very well adapted to being parasites of humans.
Both bats and shrews are roosting, adapted to living in their host's nest or roost.
There are about 400,000 known cases of multiple sclerosis, or MS, in the United States, making it the most common neurological disease among young and middle-aged adults.
MS affects the central nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord and optic nerve.
Research has shown that women are twice as likely to be diagnosed with MS than men.
A couple may decide that raising a child is not in their or their child's best interest.
These couples can, if they wish, draw up an adoption plan for their child.
In adoption, biological parents relinquish their rights to parenthood, allowing another couple to act as the child's parents.
The purpose of science is to use the scientific method to find out how the world works. The scientific method guides the majority of scientific research.
However, it is not just about doing experiments, and an experiment is a test that is used to eliminate one or more possible hypotheses. Asking questions and making observations also guide scientific research.
Naturalists and philosophers focused on classical texts, especially the Latin Bible.
Aristotle's views were accepted in all fields of science, including psychology.
As the Greek language weakened in the west, it lost touch with its Greek philosophical and scientific roots.
Many of the rhythms observed in body structure and behavior are critically dependent on the existence of endogenous circadian rhythms and their entrainment by biological clocks.
Periodic rhythms that are not simply reactions to external periodic stimuli have been observed in most living organisms, including bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals.
Biological clocks are self-sustaining oscillators that continue a free-running cycle even in the absence of external stimuli.
Hershey and Chase's research was one of the most important pieces of evidence that DNA is genetic material.
Hershey and Chase used viruses to inject their own DNA into the bacteria.
They did two experiments, either marking the DNA in the faeces with radioactive phosphorus or the protein in the faeces with a radioactive isotope.
Mutations can have many different effects depending on the type of mutation, how important the mutation is to the gene, and whether the mutation is in a germ cell or somatic cell.
Only mutations that occur in the germline can be passed on to children, and mutations that occur elsewhere can cause cell death or cancer.
Nature tourism attracts people who are interested in visiting nature sites to enjoy the scenery – also wild plants and animals.
Examples of activities at the destination include hunting, fishing, photography, bird watching, park visits, and learning about the ecosystem.
One example is visiting the orangutans in Borneo, learning about them, and taking pictures of them.
Every morning, the residents of small rural towns get into their cars to go to work, and they are met by others who work where they themselves started out.
In this dynamic car-based transportation system, everyone is somehow connected to the private car-based transportation system and at the same time support it.
Science now suggests that the vast carbon economy has tipped the biosphere out of a stable state that has supported human evolution for the past two million years.
Everyone participates in society and uses the transport system. Almost everyone complains about the transport system.
In developed countries, one rarely hears as many complaints about the quality of water or collapsing roofs.
Why do transport systems cause so many complaints, why do they fail every day? Are transport planners just incompetent? Or is there something fundamentally wrong?
Traffic flow is the study of the movement of individual drivers and vehicles between two points and their interactions with each other.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to study the traffic flow, because the drivers' behaviour cannot be predicted with 100 per cent certainty.
Fortunately, the kusks behave reasonably similarly, so the traffic flows usually have a reasonable degree of consistency, and they can be described roughly mathematically.
In order to better describe the traffic flow, a relationship has been created between the following three main properties: (1) the flow, (2) the density, and (3) the speed.
Understanding these relationships helps in the design, construction, and maintenance of roadways.
Insects were the first animals to take to the air, and their ability to fly helped them avoid predators, find food and mates more efficiently.
Most insects have the advantage of being able to fold their wings back over their bodies.
Thus they have a wider range of small places to hide from pedos.
The dragonflies and damselflies are the only insects today that cannot fold their wings backwards.
Thousands of years ago, a man named Aristarchos said that the solar system revolves around the sun.
Some thought he was right, but many believed the opposite, that the entire solar system revolves around the Earth, including the Sun (and even other stars).
This makes sense, right? The Earth doesn't feel like it's moving, right?
Amazon is the second-longest and largest river in the world, with more than eight times the water of the second-largest river.
Amazon is also the world's widest river, at 6 miles wide at its widest.
A full 20 percent of the water on our planet that flows into the oceans comes from the Amazon.
The full length of the Amazon River is 6,387 km (3,980 mi). It collects water from thousands of smaller rivers.
Although pyramid building in stone continued until the end of the Old Kingdom, the size or construction techniques of the Giza pyramids were never surpassed.
The ancient Egyptians of the New Kingdom venerated the memorials of their predecessors, some of which were already over a thousand years old.
The population of Vatican City is about 800. It is the world's smallest independent state and the world's smallest state by population.
The Vatican uses Italian in its legislation and official communications.
Most people in the country speak Italian as their everyday language, but Latin is often used in religious broadcasts.
All residents of Vatican City are Roman Catholics.
Humans have known the common chemical elements, such as gold, silver, and copper, since ancient times, because all of them occur naturally and are relatively easy to mine using basic tools.
Philosopher Aristotle theorized that everything is composed of one or more elements: earth, water, air, and fire.
It reminded me more of the four states of matter - solid, liquid, gas and plasma - but he also theorised that they change into other forms of matter to create what we see.
Metallic compounds are essentially a mixture of two or more metals. Don't forget that there are many elements in the periodic table.
Elements such as calcium and potassium are counted as metals. There are also metals such as gold and silver.
There are also metal alloys that contain small amounts of non-metal elements such as carbon.
Everything in the universe is made of matter. All matter is made of tiny particles called atoms.
Atoms are so incredibly small that there are billions of them in the period at the end of this sentence.
So the lead pencil was a good friend to many when the market came.
Unfortunately, as new writing methods have developed, the value of the lead pencil and its uses have become more obscure.
Nowadays messages are written on a computer screen, and there is no need to hammer the typewriter.
One can only guess what happens to the keyboard when something new is added to the landscape.
A fission bomb works on the principle that energy is required to form a nucleus that consists of many protons and neutrons.
It's a bit like pushing a heavy cart uphill. Cutting the core again releases some of that energy.
Some atoms have an unstable nucleus, which makes them susceptible to breaking down from a small or non-existent nudge.
The moon's surface is made of rock and dust. The outer layer of the moon is called its crust.
The Moon's crust is about 70 kilometers thick on the side facing the Earth and about 100 kilometers thick on the side facing away from the Earth.
It is thinner under the sea and thicker on the highlands.
The dark patches on the visible side of the shell may be more because the shell is thinner, and it was easier for the lava to rise to the surface.
Content theories focus primarily on what is behind people's behavior or what appeals to them.
According to these theories, people have certain needs and/or desires that they internalized during adulthood.
These theories examine why some people want what they want and what things in their environment cause them to do or not do certain things.
Maslow's hierarchy of needs and Herzberg's two-factor theory are popular content theories.
When leaders begin to lead their peers, generally speaking, there can be two different behaviors. One is to try to stay "one of the guys" (or "one of the girls").
A leader like this has difficulty making unpopular decisions, maintaining discipline, assessing performance, allocating responsibility, and holding people accountable.
At the other end of the scale, a person is shaped into an anonymous individual who feels he has to change everything the group has done and make it his own.
The leader is ultimately responsible for the group's successes and failures.
This behavior often leads to disagreements between the leader and the rest of the group.
Virtual teams are expected to have the same level of quality as traditional teams, but with unique differences.
Virtual team members act as the immediate point of contact for their physical team.
They often have more decision-making power than regular team members, as their team may meet across time zones, and their local management may not always understand this.
The real "invisible team" (Larson and LaFasto 1989, 109) is also one of the unique factors of the virtual team.
The invisible team is the lead team, to which all members report. The invisible team sets the requirements for each member.
Why would an organization want to go through the time-consuming process of establishing a learning organization when one of the goals of systematic learning concepts is innovation?
When all available resources are used efficiently by all departments of the organization, creativity and ingenuity can arise.
As a result, the process in which an organization works together to overcome an obstacle can lead to a new innovative process that serves the needs of the customer.
Before an organization can be innovative, leaders must create an innovative culture, share information and organizational learning.
Angel (2006) describes a continuous improvement approach that is used to help organizations achieve higher levels of performance.
Neurobiological findings provide physical evidence for the theoretical approach to consciousness research, thus narrowing down the research field and making it much more exact.
The correlation between brain pathology and behavior supports the scientists' research.
For a long time it has been known that various brain injuries, traumas, lesions and tumours affect behaviour and cause changes in some psychological functions.
As new technologies become available, we will be able to see and study brain structures and processes that have never been seen before.
This way we get a lot of information and material to create simulation models that help us understand our brain processes.
Although AI is often associated with science fiction, it is a very important branch of computer science that studies the behavior, learning, and intelligent adaptation of machines.
Artificial intelligence research aims to get machines to automatically perform tasks that require intelligent action.
Examples include surveillance, planning and scheduling, the ability to respond to the patient's diagnosis and questions, facial and voice recognition.
These have branched out into separate disciplines that focus on solving real-world problems.
Today, AI is often used in economics, medicine, technology, and defense, just as it is built into many home computers and video games.
Field trips are an important part of the teaching. Often the teacher would like to take the students to places that cannot be reached by bus.
Technology offers a solution in the form of virtual classroom visits. Students can view museum exhibits, visit an aquarium or admire beautiful art while sitting on a stool.
Virtual breakout rooms are a great way to remember and share the experience with future classes.
For example, every year the students at Bennett College in North Carolina create a website about their journey to the state capital. The website is updated every year, but the old versions are kept online as a sort of scrapbook.
Blogs can also help improve students' writing skills. In the early stages of blogging, grammar and spelling are often lax, but the presence of an audience usually changes that.
Because the students themselves are often the most critical audience, the blogger begins to feel the need to improve his writing and avoid criticism.
In addition, blogging "forces students to write better about the world around them" (Toto 2004). The need to feed the reader's interest encourages students to be concise and interesting (Toto 2004).
Blogging is a tool that inspires collaboration and encourages students to extend their learning beyond the traditional school day.
The appropriate use of blogs "can give students the opportunity to be more analytical and critical. By responding actively to Internet materials, students can define their position in relation to other people's writings, as well as express their own point of view on a given question" (Oravec 2002).
Ottawa is Canada's charming bilingual capital city with a wealth of art galleries and museums showcasing Canada's past and present.
In the south, there are the Niagara Falls, and in the north there is, among other things, the unspoiled, nature-beautiful Muskoka.
These and many other factors create an impression of Ontario as a place that outsiders think of as a Canadian stereotype.
Large areas in the north are sparsely populated, and some of them are almost uninhabited wilderness.
The next population comparison is even more surprising: There are more African-Americans in the United States than there are citizens in Canada.
The East African islands are located in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Africa.
Madagascar is by far the largest of them, and in terms of its nature it is like a continent of its own.
Most of the smaller islands are independent states or part of France, and are known for their luxurious beach resorts.
The Arabs brought Islam with them, and it had a lot of wind in its sails in the Comoros and Mayotte.
European influence and colonialism began in the 1400s when Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama discovered a sea route from Europe to India.
The area is bordered in the north by the Sahel and in the south and west by the Atlantic Ocean.
Women - All male travellers are advised to say they are married, regardless of whether they are legally married.
A ring can also help (as long as it doesn't look too valuable.
Women should understand that cultural differences can cause such things that they may experience as harassment. It is not uncommon that someone follows you, grabs your arm, etc.
Be firm in rejecting men, don't be afraid to keep your distance (cultural differences don't justify intimacy!).
The modern city of Casablanca was founded in the 9th century BCE by Berber fishermen, and served as a strategic port for the Phoenicians, Romans, and Merinids, who called it Anfa.
The Portuguese destroyed it and rebuilt it under the name Casa Branca only to abandon it after the 1755 earthquake.
The Moroccan sultan rebuilt the city under the name of Dar-ul-Badya, and the Spanish merchants who opened shops there called it Casablanca.
Casablanca is one of the least interesting shopping places in Morocco.
It is easy to find places selling traditional Moroccan products such as tagines, pottery, leather goods, water pipes, and a wide range of rugs, but all of this is aimed at tourists.
Goma is a tourist city on the eastern border of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, near Rwanda.
In 2002, lava from the Nyiragongo volcano destroyed Goma, burying most of its streets, especially in the city center.
Goma is generally safe, but all trips outside the city require pre-trip research to determine the current situation in North Kivu, where ongoing fighting is taking place.
The city is also the starting point for climbing the Nyiragongo volcano, and is home to some of the cheapest gorilla trackers in Africa.
To move around in Goma, you can use a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi). The normal (local) taxi costs about 500 Congolese francs for a short ride.
When this is combined with its remote location, "Timbuktu" has begun to be used as a metaphor for exotic, distant lands.
Today, Timbuktu is a poor city, although its fame makes it a tourist attraction, and it has an airport.
It was added to the List of World Heritage in Danger in 1990 due to the threat of the desert sands.
It was one of the most important stops in Henry Louis Gates' PBS special Wonders of the African World.
The city is a sharp contrast to the country's other cities, because it has more of an Arab feel than an African one.
Kruger National Park (KNP) is located in northeastern South Africa and borders Mozambique to the east, Zimbabwe to the north, and the Crocodile River to the south.
The park has an area of 19,500 km² and is divided into 14 different nature reserves, each supporting different fauna and flora.
It is one of South Africa's most popular destinations and is the flagship of the South African National Parks (SANParks).
A daily conservation and entrance fee is charged in the park, as in all South African national parks.
It may also be useful to buy a Wild Card (wild card), with which you can enter either part of the South African parks or all of the South African national parks.
Hong Kong Island gives its name to the Hong Kong region and is a popular tourist destination.
Hong Kong's skyline of skyscrapers has been likened to a jewelled pagoda reflected in the waters of Victoria Harbour.
Hong Kong's best half can be seen by leaving the island and heading towards the Kowloon port area on the opposite side.
Most of Hong Kong Island's urban area is built on reclaimed land along the northern coast.
This is where the British colonial administrators made their home, and if you are looking for signs of the area's colonial history, this is a good place to start.
The Sundarbans is the world's largest mangrove forest, stretching 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the coast of Bangladesh and India.
Sundarban has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The Indian part of the forest is called Sundarban National Park.
However, the forests are not just mangroves, but include some of the last remnants of the mighty forests that once covered the entire Gangetic plains.
Sundarban covers an area of 3,850 square kilometres, of which about a third is covered by water or marshes.
Since 1966, the Sundarbans has been a wildlife sanctuary. It is estimated that there are now 400 tigers and about 30,000 deer in the Sundarbans.
Buses depart from the inter-district bus station (on the other side of the river) throughout the day, though most, especially those going east and to Jakar and Bumthang, leave between 6.30 and 7.30 am.
Because the local buses are often full, it is recommended to buy a ticket a few days in advance.
Most of the districts are served by small Japanese Coaster buses, which are comfortable and sturdy.
Taxis are a quick and comfortable way to travel to nearby places like Paro (150 ngultrums) and Punakha (200 ngultrums).
The Oyapock Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that crosses the Oyapock River and connects the cities of Oiapoque in Brazil and Saint-Georges de l'Oyapock in French Guiana.
Its two towers reach a height of 83 metres, it is 378 metres long, and it has two three-and-a-half-metre-wide lanes.
The height of the underpass is 15 metres. Construction works ended in August 2011, but the bridge was opened for traffic only in March 2017.
According to the schedule, the bridge should be in full use in September 2017, when the Brazilian border posts are estimated to be completed.
The Guarani were the most important indigenous group living in present-day eastern Paraguay. They were semi-nomadic hunter-gatherers, but also practiced subsistence farming.
The Chaco region was home to other indigenous groups, such as the Guaycurú and Payaguá, who survived by hunting, gathering, and fishing.
Paraguay, once called the "Giant Colony of the Indians," was the result of a meeting between Spanish conquerors and the country's indigenous peoples in the 1500s.
The Spanish began the colonial era, which lasted for three hundred years.
Since the founding of Asuncion in 1537, Paraguay has managed to preserve much of its original character and identity.
Argentina is famous for having one of the best polo teams and players in the world.
The biggest tournament of the year will be held in Las Cañitas pool hall in December.
Smaller tournaments and matches can also be seen at other times of the year.
The Argentinian pool federation provides information about the tournaments and ticket sales for pool matches.
The official currency of the Falkland Islands is the Falkland pound (FKP), which is pegged to the English pound (GBP).
Money can only be exchanged in the only bank on the islands, which is located in Stanley, opposite the FIC West store.
Pound sterling is generally used throughout the islands, and credit cards and U.S. dollars are often accepted in Stanley.
Credit cards are unlikely to be accepted in the Outer Hebrides, although British and American currencies may be acceptable. Check with the owner in advance to find out what form of payment will be accepted.
Exchanging Falkland Islands currency outside the islands is almost impossible, so exchange your money before leaving the islands.
Because Montevideo is located south of the equator, there is summer when it is winter in the northern hemisphere, and vice versa.
Montevideo is located on the subtropical belt, and temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius are common in June.
Winter can be deceptively cold: the temperature rarely falls below freezing, but the combination of wind and moisture makes the air feel colder than the thermometer indicates.
There are no special rainy seasons or dry seasons: the amount of rainfall remains more or less the same throughout the year.
While many of the park's animals are accustomed to seeing people, wild animals are still wild and should not be fed or disturbed.
Park officials recommend staying at least 100 yards (91 meters) away from bears and wolves, and 25 yards (23 meters) away from other wildlife.
Bison, moose, bears and almost all large animals can attack, even though they may look very friendly.
Every year dozens of visitors are injured because they didn't keep their distance from the animals, which are large, wild and potentially dangerous, so give them their space.
Also keep in mind that odors attract bears and other wildlife, so avoid cooking or preparing food with strong odors and keep your campsite clean.
Apia is the capital of Samoa and is located on the island of Upolu, with a population of just under 40,000.
Apia was founded in the 1850s and has been the official capital of Samoa since 1959.
In 1889, a standoff between seven ships - German, American, and British - refused to leave the harbor.
All the ships sank except for one British cruiser, and nearly 200 American and German lives were lost.
During Mau Movement's struggle for independence, a peaceful gathering in the city led to the death of the paramount chief Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III.
There are many beaches, because Auckland is between two harbours. The most popular ones are located in three different areas.
North Shore beaches (in the North Harbour suburb) are on the Pacific Ocean and extend from North Long Bay to Devonport in the south.
Almost all are sandy beaches with safe swimming, and pohutukawa trees provide shade for most.
Tamaki Drive beaches are located at the Waitemata Harbour in the affluent suburbs of Mission Bay and St Heliers in central Auckland.
They are sometimes crowded family beaches, and the coastline is lined with a good selection of shops. Swimming is safe.
The most important local beer is "Number One". It is not a multidimensional beer, but pleasant and refreshing. Another local beer is called "Manta".
There are plenty of French wines worth trying, but New Zealand and Australian wines may fare better on the journey.
Local tap water is completely safe to drink, but those who are cautious will find it easy to find bottled water.
The idea of a flat white-style milk coffee is foreign to Australians. A small black coffee is known as an espresso, and cappuccino is served with a large amount of frothed milk instead of cream. Tea is served without milk.
The chocolate meets Belgian standards. The fruit mousses are expensive but excellent.
There are many trips organised to Riutta throughout the year, and because of this, injuries on Riutta are rare.
So take heed of official advice, obey all signs and pay close attention to security warnings.
From October to April, quillworts can be found near shores and river mouths north of 1770. Occasionally they can also be found at other times.
Haiti exists, but they rarely attack people. Most hait are afraid of humans and probably swim away.
Saltwater crocodiles do not actually live in the sea, but their primary habitat is the estuaries from Rockhampton to the north.
The traveller gets peace of mind when booking in advance that there will be a place to sleep when arriving at the destination.
Travel agencies often have offers for certain hotels, but through a travel agency it may be possible to reserve other types of accommodation, such as camping sites.
Travel agencies usually offer packages that include breakfast, transportation to and from the airport, and even combined flight and hotel packages.
They can also keep your reservation in force if you need time to consider the offer or to obtain other documents (e.g. a visa).
However, all changes and requests should be directed first to the travel agency, not directly to the hotel.
At some festivals, a large majority of music festival attendees decide to camp in the area, and most attendees consider it an essential part of the experience.
If you want to be close to the action, you'll need to get there early to get a spot close to the music.
Remember that even after the main stage music performances end, there may be places where music is played late into the night.
Some festivals have separate camping areas for families with children.
If you cross the northern part of the Baltic Sea during the winter, check the location of the hut, because the sound of crossing the ice is very bad.
Time spent in the city is included in a St. Petersburg cruise. Cruise travelers are exempt from visa requirements (check requirements).
Casinos typically do their best to maximize the amount of time and money their customers spend. Windows and clocks are rare, and finding an exit can be difficult.
They often have special food, drink, and entertainment offerings to keep customers happy - and in the casino.
Some places offer alcoholic drinks in the house, but drunkenness weakens the ability to evaluate, and all good gamblers know the importance of staying sober.
Those driving in high latitudes or mountainous areas should be aware of the possibility of snow, ice, or extremely cold temperatures.
On icy and snowy roads, there is little grip, and you cannot drive in the same way as you would drive on asphalt.
During a blizzard, it can snow so much in a short time that a car gets stuck.
Snowfall or blowing snow, as well as condensation or ice that has accumulated on the windows of the vehicle, may also reduce visibility.
On the other hand, icy and snowy conditions are common in many countries, and traffic operates year-round without interruption.
Safaris are perhaps Africa’s biggest draw and many people’s main reason for visiting.
In common parlance, the word safari refers to an overland journey through Africa to see the continent's magnificent wildlife, especially on the savannah.
Some animals, such as elephants and giraffes, often come close to the cars, and a common lens is enough to see them.
Lions, leopards and cheetahs are sometimes shy, and you can see them better in the savannah.
A walking safari (also known as a bushwalk, trekking safari, or hiking safari) is either a few hours or several days of hiking.
The Paralympics will be held from August 24 to September 5, 2021. Some of the events will be held in different parts of Japan.
Tokyo will be the only Asian city to have hosted two summer Olympic Games, having hosted the 1964 Games.
If you booked a flight or accommodation for 2020 before the delay was announced, your situation may be difficult.
Cancellation policies vary, but as of the end of March, the vast majority of coronavirus-related cancellation policies did not extend to July 2020, when the Olympics were scheduled to be held.
Tickets for most events are expected to cost between 2,500 and 130,000 rupiah, with tickets usually costing around 7,000 rupiah.
Wringing out wet clothes can help them dry out. Many hotels will allow you to borrow a clothes rack or drying rack, even if there isn't one in the room.
If you don't have a comb, or if you don't particularly care about your beard, you can try a hair dryer, if one is available.
Be careful not to overheat the fabric (because it can cause shrinkage or, in extreme cases, tearing).
There are different ways to purify water, some of which are more effective against certain threats.
In some areas it is enough to boil water for one minute, in other areas it takes several minutes.
The efficiency of filters varies, and if you have doubts, consider buying water from a reputable company in sealed bottles.
Tourists can run into creatures they are not accustomed to in their home country.
Pests can spoil food, cause irritation or, in the worst case, cause allergic reactions, spread poison and infect diseases.
True infectious diseases or dangerous animals that can injure or kill people violently are not usually considered pests.
Tax-free purchases mean the possibility to buy certain products in certain places, which are exempt from manufacturing and sales taxes.
Travellers heading to countries with heavy taxation on goods such as alcohol and tobacco may save significant amounts of money.
Between Point Marion and Fairmont, the Buffalo–Pittsburgh Turnpike has the most challenging driving conditions, as it repeatedly passes through remote forest.
If you are not used to driving on country roads, be careful: there are many steep climbs and descents, narrow lanes and sharp bends.
The prescribed speed limits are much lower than on earlier and later sections - usually 35-40 mph (56-64 km/h) - and their absolute adherence is even more important than usual.
Strangely enough, cell phone coverage is much better here than in many other places along the way, such as the Pennsylvania Wilds.
German pastries are very good and in Bavaria there are very many and diverse, reminding of the pastries of the neighbouring Austria in the south.
Fruit pies are common. Apple pies are made throughout the year, and cherries and plums are popular fillings in the summer.
Many German pastries also contain nuts, such as hazelnuts and other nuts. Popular cakes often taste especially good with a strong cup of coffee.
If you crave small but supportive pancakes, try Berliner, Pfannkuchen, or Krapfen, depending on where you are.
Curry is a dish based on either meat or vegetables with spices and herbs.
Curry can be either "dry" or "wet" depending on the amount of liquid.
In the interior of North India and Pakistan, yogurt is commonly used in curries. In South India and some coastal regions, coconut milk is more common.
With 17,000 islands to choose from, Indonesian food is an umbrella term that covers a wide range of regional cuisines across the country.
However, if the term is used without qualification, it usually refers to food from the central and eastern parts of Java.
Javanese cuisine is now widely available throughout the archipelago, and includes a large selection of simply flavoured dishes. Javanese favourites include peanuts, chillies, sugar (especially Javanese coconut sugar) and a variety of aromatic spices.
The irons are the rider's stirrups, hanging on either side of the saddle.
They provide more stability for the rider, but there may be safety concerns as the rider's feet may get caught in them.
If a rider falls off a horse but their foot gets caught in the stirrup, the galloping horse could drag them along behind it. To reduce the risk of this happening, a number of precautions can be taken.
First of all, most riders use dressage saddles, which have a smooth and very narrow base.
Some saddles, especially English ones, have a safety strap to prevent the girth from coming out of the saddle if a falling rider pulls it back.

Skiing and snowboarding are popular winter sports that involve sliding down snow on skis or a snowboard.
Skiing is an important leisure activity, and many so-called "ski bums" plan entire vacations around skiing in a particular location.
The idea of skiing is very old - rock paintings of skiers have been made already in 5000 B.C.!
Alpine skiing as a sport can be traced back to at least the 17th century, and in 1861 the Norwegians opened the first ski resort in Australia.
Backcountry skiing: this activity is also called ski touring, ski trekking or ski trekking.
It is similar to alpine hiking or mountaineering, but usually does not include the latter, because the latter is done in steep terrain and requires much stiffer boots and crampons.
Think of the ski trail as a hiking trail.
In good conditions you can move a bit faster than on foot, but you will rarely reach the same speed as when skiing on worried slopes and without a heavy backpack.
Europe is a relatively small continent, but there are many independent countries there. Under normal circumstances, traveling through multiple countries would mean filling out visa applications and going through passport checks multiple times.
However, the Schengen area operates in this respect a bit like a single state.
As long as you stay in this area, you can usually cross the border without having to go through passport control again.
When you have a Schengen visa, you do not need to apply for a visa for each Schengen country separately, and thus you save time, money and paperwork.
There is no universal definition of what factory-made goods are considered antiques. Some tax authorities define all goods over 100 years old as antiques.
The definition varies by geographical location. For example, in North America, antiques are newer items than in Europe.
Handicrafts may be defined as antique, even though they are newer than similar mass-produced products.
Reindeer herding is an important livelihood for the Sami, and it is also important for many other professionals.
Even traditionally, not all Sami people have participated in large-scale reindeer husbandry, but have lived on fishing, hunting and similar livelihoods, and kept reindeer more like draft animals.
Today many Sami people work in modern professions. Tourism is an important source of income in Sameland.
Although the word gypsy is widely used, especially among non-Roma, it is often considered offensive because it is associated with negative stereotypes and misconceptions about the Roma people.
If your travel destination is affected by a travel advisory, it may affect your travel insurance and trip cancellation insurance.
Maybe you should also ask for advice from other countries, even though their advice is for their own citizens.
For example, Americans may find themselves in different situations in the Middle East than Europeans or Arabs.
These are short summaries of a country's political situation.
The views presented are often superficial, stereotyped and oversimplified compared to the more detailed information available elsewhere.
Dangerous weather is a generic term for all dangerous weather phenomena that can cause damage, serious social disruption or loss of life.
Dangerous weather can occur anywhere in the world, and there are different types that can depend on geography, topography, and atmospheric conditions.
High winds, heavy rain, large rainfall amounts, and wildfires are dangerous weather patterns and consequences, as well as thunderstorms, tornadoes, flash floods, and cyclones.
Dangerous weather includes regional and seasonal phenomena such as blizzards, ice storms, and sandstorms.

Everyone who wants to visit a country that is considered to be a war zone should receive professional training.
A search for "Hostile Environment Course" is likely to return the address of a local business.
The course usually goes through all of these topics in much more detail and usually combined with practical experience.
The course usually lasts 2-5 days and includes role-playing, a lot of first aid, and sometimes weapons training.
Books and magazines about survival in the wilderness are common, but publications about war zones are rare.
Travellers heading overseas for gender reassignment surgery should ensure they have valid travel documents for their return.
Officials' willingness to issue passports that don't specify a sex (X) or update documents to reflect a desired name and gender varies.
The willingness of foreign authorities to respect these documents varies just as much.
Security checks have also become much more invasive since September 11, 2001.
Transgender people who have not undergone surgery should not assume that they will be able to pass through the scanners while maintaining their privacy and dignity.
Return currents are the return flow of waves breaking on the beach. They are often found on reefs or similar places.
Because of the underwater topography, the return flow is concentrated in a few deeper parts, where there can be a fast flow to deep water.
Most deaths are due to exhaustion when trying to swim against the current, which may be impossible.
As soon as you get out of the current, swimming back isn't any harder than usual.
Try to get somewhere where you won't be swept away again, depending on your skill and whether you've been spotted, it may be wise to wait for rescuers.
The return shock hits earlier than the cultural shock (acclimatization phase is shorter), lasts longer, and can be more serious.
It can be especially difficult for travellers, who had an easy time adapting to a new culture, to adapt again to their own home culture.
When you return home after living abroad, you are accustomed to the new culture and have lost some of the habits of your home culture.
When you first went abroad, people were probably patient and understanding, knowing that the travellers had to get used to a new country.
People may not realize that patience and understanding are also important for those returning home.
The Pyramids sound and light show is one of the most interesting things for children in the area.
The pyramids can be seen in the dark, and before the performance begins, they can be seen in complete silence.
You usually hear the voices of tourists and merchants. The story of light and sound is like a fairy tale.
The Sphinx is the narrator of a long story.
The scenes are projected against pyramids, and different pyramids are illuminated.
Many countries claim the Southern Shetland Islands, discovered in 1819, and they have the most bases, with sixteen active in 2020.
The archipelago is located 75 miles (120 km) north of the peninsula. The largest is King George Island, where the Villa Las Estrellas settlement is located.
Others include Livingston Island and Deception, where a still-active volcanic crater filled with water serves as a stunning natural harbor.
Ellsworth Land lies south of the peninsula and is bounded by the Bellingshausen Sea.
There, the Niemi Mountains melt into the plains and rise again to form the 240-mile-long Ellsworth Range, which the Minnesota Glacier cuts in half.
The highest mountains in Antarctica, the Vinson Massif, are located in the North, in the Sentinel Mountains, with the highest peak being Mount Vinson at 4,892 metres.
In remote areas where mobile phones have no signal, a satellite phone may be the only option.
A satellite phone is not usually a substitute for a mobile phone, because to make a call you have to be outdoors and have an unobstructed view of the satellite.
The service is often used in shipping, also on yachts. In addition, it is used by expeditions that need data and audio connections.
Your local phone service provider should be able to give you more information about this service.

Typically, a fee is charged for participation in these courses.
Finland is an excellent boating destination. The country of thousands of lakes has also thousands of islands, both in the lakes and in the coastal archipelagos.
In the archipelago and lakes, you do not necessarily need a boat with a full-size motor.
Although the coastal archipelagos and the largest lakes are large enough for any boat, the smaller boats or even kayaks give a different experience.
Boating is a common hobby in Finland, where there are boats for every seventh or eighth person.
The relationship is the same as in Norway, Sweden and New Zealand, but otherwise very rare (e.g. in the Netherlands, the number is one in forty).
Most real Baltic Sea cruises include a longer stay in St. Petersburg.
This means you can visit a historic city for a few days and still return to the ship to sleep at night.
You don't need a separate visa, if you only travel by ship arranged by the ship company (2009 situation).
A few cruise itineraries include a stop in Berlin, Germany. As the map above shows, Berlin is nowhere near the sea, so a visit to the city is not included in the price of the cruise.
Flying can be a scary experience for people of all ages and backgrounds, especially if they haven't flown before or have had a traumatic experience.
It's not something to be ashamed of: it's no different from many other people's fears and hatred of other things.
For some people, having some understanding of how an aircraft operates and what happens during a flight may help to overcome feelings of ignorance or helplessness that can lead to a fear of flying.
Shipping companies are paid well for fast deliveries. Often the speed is very important for the company's documents, trade goods or urgent repairs.
Larger companies have their own planes on some routes, but there were problems on other routes and with smaller companies.
If they sent goods by air, in some routes the unloading and loading could take days.
The only way to get your goods through faster is to send it as checked luggage. Airline regulations do not allow for baggage to be sent without a passenger, so at this point you are needed.
The most obvious way to fly first or business class is to pay a big wad of cash for the privilege.
However, it doesn't come cheap: a rough rule of thumb is that you can expect to pay up to four times as much for business class as for economy class, and up to eleven times as much for first class!
There is no point in looking for discounts on direct flights from place A to place B, in general.
Airlines know that there is a core group of air travelers who are willing to pay a premium to get somewhere quickly and comfortably, and they price accordingly.
The capital of Moldova is Chişinău. The local language is Romanian, but Russian is also widely spoken.
Moldova is a multi-ethnic republic that has suffered an ethnic conflict.
The conflict led to the declaration of independence of the Transnistrian Republic in 1994, which has its own government and currency, but is not recognized by any UN member state.
Economic ties have been re-established between the two parts of Moldova, even though political negotiations have failed.
The main religion in Moldova is Orthodox Christianity.
İzmir is Turkey's third-largest city, with a population of about 3.7 million people. It is the country's second-largest port after Istanbul and an important transportation hub.
The ancient city of Smyrna is now a modern, developed and bustling commercial centre, surrounded by mountains and stretching around a vast bay.
The wide boulevards, glass-fronted buildings and modern shopping malls are interspersed with traditional red-tiled roofs, a 17th-century bazaar and old mosques and churches, though the city's atmosphere is more reminiscent of the Mediterranean than traditional Turkey.
Haldarsvik has an unusual octagonal church, and from the village there is a view of the nearby island of Eysturoy.

It is worth spending half an hour wandering around the fascinating village.
From there to the north and easily accessible is the romantic and fascinating city of Sintra, immortalized in Lord Byron's lyrical description of its splendor.
ScottUrbin bus 403 runs regularly to Sintra and stops at Cabo da Roca.
It is also worth visiting the Great Fatima Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, which is world-famous for the apparition of the Virgin Mary.
Remember, you're essentially visiting a mass grave and a site of importance to a significant portion of the people on this planet.
There are still many men and women alive today who survived being there, and many others whose loved ones were murdered there or forced to kill themselves there, Jews and non-Jews alike.
Treat the subject with all the gravity, seriousness, and respect it deserves. Don't joke about the Holocaust or the Nazis.
Don't deface the place by drawing or scratching graffiti on the structures.
Barcelona's official languages are Catalan and Spanish. About half of the population prefers Catalan, most understand it, and everyone speaks Spanish.
However, most of the signs are written in Catalan, as it is the official first language.
However, Spanish is also widely used in public transportation and other services.
Metro's usual announcements are only in Catalan, but the automatic system announces unexpected disturbances in several languages, including Spanish, English, French, Arabic and Japanese.
Parisians have a reputation for being selfish, arrogant and haughty people.
Even though it's often just a stereotype, the best way to get by in Paris is to be as polite as possible and act like someone who is "bien élevé" (well brought up). It makes moving around much easier.
Parisians' gruff exterior melts away quickly if you just show a bit of ordinary courtesy.
Plitvice National Park has a lot of forest, mostly pine, spruce and fir trees, and its vegetation is a mixture of Alpine and Mediterranean plants.
There is a significant diversity of plant communities due to a wide range of microclimates, varying soils, and elevation differences.
The area is also home to an incredible number of different animal and bird species.
In addition to the common species, it is possible to find rare fauna, such as bears, wolves, owls, eagles, foxes, weasels, and martens.
Women visiting monasteries must wear skirts that cover their knees, and their shoulders must also be covered.
But if you wear your own hood, especially a brightly coloured one, you might get a smile from the monk or nun at the entrance.
Similarly, men need to be dressed in trousers that reach below the knee.
These can also be borrowed from the dressing room, but they are not washed after every use, so you may not feel comfortable in these pants. One size fits all men!
Mallorcan cuisine is based on bread, vegetables and meat (especially pork) and uses all olive oil.

All substantives, and in addition the word "Sie" or "you" always begin with a capital letter, even in the middle of a sentence.
This is an important way to distinguish some verbs from nouns.
It can also make reading easier, though it complicates writing, as one has to decide whether to use a verb or an adjective in the substantive form.

In addition, a few buses go north to Hebron, the traditional burial place of the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and their wives.
Check that the bus you are about to board goes to Hebron and not only to the nearby Kiryat Arba settlement.
Inland waterways can be a good theme around which to plan a holiday.
For example, a visit to the castles of the Loire Valley, a visit to the Rhine Valley or a cruise to the charming towns on the banks of the Rhine or a trip on the Canal du Midi.
They also determine the popularity of hiking and cycling routes.
Christmas is one of the most important holidays in Christianity, and it is celebrated on the birthday of Jesus.
Even non-believers and non-Christians around the world have adopted many of the traditions associated with the holiday.
Traditionally, Easter Eve is spent outdoors in an open place to see the sunrise.
Of course, there are Christian theological explanations for this tradition, but it could also be a pre-Christian spring and fertility ritual.
Traditional churches often hold the Easter Vigil on the Saturday evening of Easter weekend, with the congregation gathering at midnight to celebrate the resurrection of Christ.
All of the animals that originally arrived on the island swam, flew, or floated there.
Because the mainland was so far away, mammals were unable to survive the journey, so the giant tortoise became the main herbivore on the Galapagos Islands.
After humans arrived on the Galapagos, many mammals have been introduced, including goats, horses, pigs, rats, cats, and dogs.
If you visit the Arctic or Antarctic in winter, you will experience polar night, when the sun does not rise above the horizon.
It provides a good opportunity to see the Northern Lights, because the sky is dark almost around the clock.
Because the areas are sparsely populated, light pollution is not a problem, so you can also admire the stars.
Japanese work culture is more hierarchical and formal than Westerners may have been accustomed to.
The outfits are normal work outfits, and colleagues call each other by their first name or title.
A harmonious workplace is absolutely essential. Instead of personal achievements, the emphasis is on group work.
Employees often have to get their supervisor's approval for all decisions they make, and they are expected to follow their supervisor's instructions no matter what.
